Are you a New Year’s resolution person? Are you a Word for the year person? Are you a goal setter for the New Year? Or maybe you’re a little bit of all three.
However you like to approach and tackle a new year, kudos to you for what you do.
We’ve done some research and talked with numerous people about their approach to the New Year, so here’s a list of suggestions to help move you into 2025 purposely.
WRITE YOUR OBITUARY
Stay with me here; this is not meant as a foretelling of the near future. Actually, it’s a tool to clarify your inner desires and energize movement towards those desires. Write this like the newspaper or someone who doesn’t know the inner/real you. They’ve only got facts to go on. What would it say? Remember this exercise is strictly for you. Some items to consider might include:
The theme of your life. What is the overarching umbrella of who you are? What’s important to you? Why do you exist? This is not fate writing this obituary. It’s you – and you’re putting on paper the person you want to be.
Your beliefs. What do you hold as irrefutably true? This will have an impact on what you do in your life, your impact.
Your abilities and skills. These can apply to work, recreation, passions.
Your relationships. Consider family, friends, co-workers. What do these relationships look like?
Your health. What are you doing today and what needs to be done to ensure your longevity physically, and emotionally.
READ, UNDERSTAND & EVALUATE WHAT IT SAYSS
The big question becomes “Am I living my life in such a way that these things would be true in 10, 20, 30+ years?” It’s ok if it doesn’t. That means you’ve got work to do. What are you going to do today to start making this obituary read about the life you want to live.
BEFORE MOVING FORWARD, LOOK BACK
Sometimes a good place to start this endeavor is to look back at the previous year and identify what you learned. What are your biggest takeaways from 2024? What will you do differently because of these life lessons? This may sound random, but the lessons learned yesterday – today make for the foundation of change for tomorrow.
Happy 2025!
This is your year in so many ways!
Until we meet again Behind the Curtain, — Carla
