Learning about anything is a gift.
Our trip in January to Paris and Germany was full of new experiences, new people, and Learning! We came home seeing our world through a new, broader lens.
During the conference at a workshop about “Color” we learned:
- Color is a language and a science.
- Color is a sense thing – we see it, we feel it, we can smell it.
- Color has cultural and regional meanings. For example, take White (yes, it is a color) can be seen as clean, virginial. Yet in some cultures, white represents grieving. Green can symbolize freshness, growth, life. It can also be aligned with poison.
Now, fast forward to the “Clothesline Project” from Prevail, Inc., one of our very special community support partners. This art installation is going on now through April 30, 2025. It gives voice to survivors of violence in the shirts they create through color, words, and graphics. In this context:

- WHITE represents a person who died because of violence.
- YELLOW/BEIGE represents survivors of domestic/family violence.
- RED/PINK/ORANGE represents survivors of rape and sexual assault.
- BLUE/GREEN represents survivors of incest or child sexual abuse.
Please come by Uplift and see the shirts we have on display and learn more about Prevail, Inc. . All the services they provide are free and confidential to those who need them.
