You’ll see data stating anywhere from 85% to 95% of women are wearing the wrong size bra. Based on what we see as professional bra fitters, it’s closer to the latter. And the sad statement is that even women who have recently been “professionally” fit are in the wrong bra sizes. What is it that makes bras so difficult? Let us explain.
- No one really wants to be fitted for a bra – ever.
Let’s face it, it takes courage and determination to stand in a dressing room in your underwear with your body parts exposed so that someone, who may or may not care about your discomfort, can measure your body and breasts. And there’s a real probability that somewhere in your psyche, you’re questioning whether this will really make a difference. Seriously aren’t all bras basically the same? - You don’t know your current bra doesn’t fit. Many women buy a bra or two and think they are done for the decade. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Our weight fluctuates and our bodies change as we age. What fit five years ago is not going to fit or function well today. As a guideline, your bra should not have a birthday. This is dependent on how often you wear it and how you take care of it. A few signs of a poorly fitted bra include wrinkling in the cups, underwire poking the sides of your breasts, a band that rides up, cup spillage, slipping straps, or a bra that hikes up when you lift your arms.
- Prior fitting experiences left them feeling anything but special and empowered. Uplift is an experience in intimate apparel. We educate, pamper, and guide you to finding what makes you feel beautiful, happy, and sexy. Intimate Apparel must first and foremost be for you.
- Never be intimated by cup size. We have been educated on what is “perfect” by “angels.” When you really think about it, we women have been sold an ideal based on a marketing campaign geared to men. The right fit is about the proper band width and the cup size that works for your body. Forget about what you think your cup size should be. The right fit is more than a letter.
Ladies, there’s a huge difference in how a $15 bra and a $70+ bra will fit and perform, even if they don’t look very different on the hanger. A good quality bra will fit more comfortably the minute you put it on, provide all-day support, and will hold its appearance over many wearings and washings.
Below are a few bra mistakes we see every day using pictures we’ve found in various places as visuals.
Size does matter – the right size. We as women will change bra sizes several times over our lifetime and with weight gain or loss. In an article written by Ellen Lewis of Lingerie Briefs, she described a visit with an Italian market contact she worked with who had an extensive and expensive berth of designer bras and lingerie. When Ellen asked about her collection, the woman said “for Italian women, Lingerie is like fine jewelry, a body accessory to be coveted. They are collectibles.” Have you ever considered your bras and intimates to be the equivalent of fine jewelry?
